Welcome to Guardian Angel Cathedral, unique not only for its world-renowned windows, mosaics, murals, and stunning architectural design but also for its origin and history.
Guardian Angel Cathedral’s beginnings go back to 1958 when Clerics of St. Viator began celebrating a 4:30 AM Sunday Mass in various hotels and casinos along the world-famous Las Vegas “Strip” to accommodate tourists and employees. The present church became a reality in 1963 as the Guardian Angel Shrine.
When the Diocese of Reno was renamed the Diocese of Reno-Las Vegas in 1977, the Shrine was elevated to parish and Co-cathedral status in Nevada.
In 1995, when the Diocese of Las Vegas was established, the Guardian Angel Cathedral was named the Cathedral of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Las Vegas.
Following Pope Francis’ elevation of the Diocese of Las Vegas to the Archdiocese of Las Vegas on May 30, 2023, the Guardian Angel Cathedral became the Metropolitan Cathedral for the Archdiocese of Las Vegas.
